It helps that the first chapter has done the introductions. By the time the door shuts you know her voice, her habits and what she is hiding, so the chat can start in the middle of a thought. No profile questions, no icebreakers: the plot is the icebreaker.

The chapters are written to make you lean in. They do not describe what happens behind the door, and neither does the chat.
